The Beaver Pond Trail.

Image
I've had my eye on the Beaver Pond trail system every since I noticed it on a walk I did on the Bird to Gird trail down in Girdwood. This past week, we finally made it out there. I was surprised that the trailhead was on Crow Creek Mine Road. I've probably passed it a bunch of times and just never noticed it. We started off on Beaver Pond Trail, but detoured on to California Creek Trail. We took California Creek trail up past the tree line. I do want to go back to that area and explore further back, but on this day, we turned around and headed towards Abe Trail. Abe trail looks like an awesome bike trail. It had ramps on it. Eventually we linked back up to the Beaver Pond Trail and made it out to the pond. Didn't see any beavers and to be honest, unlikely I would ever do this trail again on foot. Perhaps on a bike or skis. Our pictures. This is about where we turned around. This area looked really interesting, but I was determined to make it to the pond. Hindsight being 20

Sean and I had gone out to Beach Lake at 1 am to try and find aurora borealis. While we were out there, we heard the eerie lake noises from the expansion and contraction of ice. We wanted to check out the ice situation during the day, so Sean grabbed his drill and off we went: There was more ice than we thought there would be! It's about an inch or two thick near the shore. From the evening trek out to the lake. The big dipper. We didn't see any northern lights, but we did see a ton of stars. The lake noises had me running back to the car. I suddenly realized there could be animals out there and I wouldn't know! Back to day time adventures. Sean put on his dry suit and off he went.   While he skated, I went for a run. It was awesome! Hurt my lungs a bit, but I'm ok today. After Beach Lake, we headed back home to shower up and grab Millie. She needs a COVID test for her upcoming surgery. Of course, we couldn't get it today, she will have to come back a bit closer to
