Exit, Glacier that is.
We had such wonderful weather yesterday. We decided to head down to Exit Glacier (near Seward). It was a nice drive down, we had to turn the A/C on a couple of times! Once we arrived at the park, we ate lunch in the car. We realized afterwords, that there were picnic tables, but that is good information for next time. There were no entrance fees and because Sean and I had been to this park before, we knew what sort of shoes to wear. They actually have rebuilt the trails a little bit and there was not nearly as much water on them as the last time we went, but in order to get to the toe of the glacier, we had to make at least three water crossings.
It was funny, you could pick through the Alaskans and the non-Alaskans based just on clothes people were wearing. Anyway, here goes our adventure.
At the entrance to the park.
The first trail that we walked through took you to the toe of the glacier. This area is where you might get a little wet. I'm not sure what they were pointing/looking at.
It wasn't deep water, but the people who walked through that with tennis shoes on had some cold feet. Also, you don't want to lose your balance right here :-)
At the toe of the glacier. Sean and Autumn looked so little compared to that big chunk of ice.
Up close view of Exit Glacier.
Maybe Al Gore does know something with that whole global warming thing.
Having fun at the toe.
Also at the toe of Exit Glacier.
Not really sure why, but Autumn loved the water crossings. I guess she truly is a water baby.
While out on the trail, we bumped into a shrew. We stayed and looked at this guy for a little while, but then it was time to head on up to the edge of the glacier.
Sean and Autumn at the edge of Exit Glacier. It was about a half mile hike to the edge, maybe a 200 foot elevation gain. We saw some pretty old people make it to the edge just fine.
Smiley Autumn.
Cherish at the edge.
A good shot of Autumn at the edge of Exit.
Autumn at the danger sign. I can recall at least one photo of Sean near a similar sign.
Heading home. Autumn really surprised me. She walked a good most of the way around the park. I would say all in all, we spent about 3 hours at the park. I forgot to mention, it did get windy near the glacier, but I did not need a coat. I was wearing a tank top and my pants got a little wet during a water crossing, but still, I did not get cold. I did notice however that the people not from Alaska were dressed for winter.
After Exit Glacier, we drove a few miles down the road and stopped in Seward at a park so that Autumn could play.
This photo cracked me up because Autumn was looking at this kid like "You're an idiot!"
They had this little town set up in the tot lot and here is Autumn and I doing some window shopping.
Autumn window shopping.
Autumn loved the slide. Here, she looks devious!
This picture sums up the day. We had oodles and oodles of fun.
Now, what is our next big adventure?? Stay tuned!
