Our great big outdoor Alaska Adventure Day 2
Day two started off early and as I stated in the previous post, we were tired and cold. Sean started the propane stove inside the A-liner to get breakfast going and the heat coming off of that was quite welcome. We decided that since it appeared there would be nice weather, we would go for a walk.
We decided we would go to:
Burney's trail (named after a biologist who studied the importance of the Lynx in this area and who later tragically died).
It was a short hike to the top. I think it took about half an hour, but that was because we let Autumn down every opportunity she wanted. She likes to pick up stuff off the trail and hand it to Sean (like pine cones and rocks). She watches him to make sure he keeps it.
Look from the Burney trail.
Pointing out the river.
Teaching Autumn about the importance of being quiet while enjoying nature.
Toss a baby.
Psych!!
Autumn spent a lot of time falling.
After climbing back down from Burney's trail, we headed over to the Scenic view off the dirt road that runs through the park. It is a beautiful spot.
Family photo.
Cherish and Autumn.
Autumn practicing downward facing dog.
Taking a moment to think.
My little princess.
Sean's turn to think.
We decide to pack up and head out. On our way back to our campsite, we run into this guy.
Black bear. So far the biggest one we have seen out there. Unbeknownst to us, it would be the fifth and final bear we would see on our adventure.
We packed up camp and headed south. We drove past Soldotna, Clam Gulch, Anchor Point and finally we arrived in Homer.
After having somewhat of a misunderstanding, we rented a spot at an RV park down on the Homer Spit.
The view from our hundred dollar space at the RV park. We were right on the beach. This was Autumn's first real trip to the beach. There were sea shells, birds, waves even.
Autumn and Sean checking out the beach.
Autumn is so intrigued by the water.
Don't let it fool you, that water is cold!!!
Autumn stood in it, but she kept losing her breath because it was so cold.
Although it was cold, she loved it!!
We took Autumn in and put her in some dry clothes. Then we checked out the spit. We stopped at an ice cream parlor and got us some ice cream. I had an espresso explosion, every time I tried to take a bite, so did Autumn. We decided that we would get Autumn a vanilla milk shake. Once we got to the Jeep and strapped her in, I got her shake started. I handed it to her, looked back and she was sucking it down. She wouldn't let go of it- turns out she really, really loves it!!!!! After we got our ice cream, we headed over to the Homer Visitor Center.. I highly recommend stopping by here if you are in Homer. They had interactive exhibits and we all really enjoyed it (plus it was free).
After checking out the spit, Sean and I took showers and did the laundry back at our overpriced parking spot. Sean fixed us dinner, we had fajitas- it was so delicious!!! This night, Sean slept on one side of the camper while Autumn and I slept on the other side. We didn't even bother with the pack n' play. Fortunately because we were staying at the Hilton of RV parks, we had hook up therefor we had HEAT! We all slept much better this way, but Autumn would still wake up crying several times a night, just freaked out that she wasn't in her own bed.
By morning the clouds had rolled in and there would be no more sunshine on our camping trip. We checked out everything we could down in Homer, so we decided to head back to Skilak WMA. On our way out, we bumped into this guy:
Profile of an Eagle.
Another look.
That finishes up day two of our adventure, stay tuned for day three!!
