Prince William Sound Day 2 ~ Sunny Cove to Auk Bay

From the sailing log: "02 July 2024 Variable winds 5 kts or less. Slight chance of rain before 7 AM. Seas 2-3 feet. Sailed and motored from Sunny Cove to Auk Bay PWS. 40 nm."

We woke up to fairly clear skies.
The boat is SO wet.
Dingo taking in the view on the way out of Sunny Cove.

I went to the bow to keep an eye out for whales. We were hearing radio chatter that there was whale activity near Hive Island.
Looking back towards Seward.

Suddenly, things got really exciting!!

Humpbacks!!

There were two.

Cape Resurrection. Barwell Isalnd is opposite this point.

Once we got through this area, we put the sails up.

We had around 5 kts of wind and traveled less than a quarter of a mile in an hour.

Dingo sunbathing at my feet. He will stay up top as long as things are not squirrelly.

I was taking in the sunshine.

In Blying Sound just before Johnstone Bay.

Excelsior Glacier.

Sean at the helm.

An old rock slide. I like looking at the trees at the top.

The different colors in the rocks.

We spent a few hours just barely moving and then finally decided it was time to motor sail the rest of the way to Auk Bay.

The mouth of Auk Bay.

We got anchored at 50 feet just around these rock formations and took Dingo to shore.

Sunflower Sea Star.

Once on shore, the girls came up on the radio to alert us that Dingo had chased a black bear.

Thankfully, the bear just ran off.

Sean and I never did see the bear.

I continued looking at what was on the beach.

Another sea Star.

Pacific Lion's Mane Jelly.

I like finding hearts in nature.

A view of Auk Bay from S/V Ulu.

Another view from Ulu.

Sean and I hopped back in the dinghy and explored around the bay.

A star hanging on to the wall.

Sunset was spectacular.

S/V Ulu in Auk Bay.

I like reading at anchor. My current read.

The day was a little exhausting. Autumn and I did see two orcas just outside of Johnstone Bay. I believe Sean made a sort of spaghetti for dinner, but instead of spaghetti noodles, he used penne. It was good, but for some reason, it burned mine and Autumn's mouth.

Tomorrow the plan is to make it to Bainbridge Passage in time to reach the flood tide.
