Ode to Sean
Let me begin by saying that we are all still sick. Every night before bed I keep telling myself, maybe this is the last day of it and honestly, we have gotten off easy (no fevers or other major problems, just a little miserable and OVERLY tired) considering. Just to give you an idea though,
we all feel like this:
Poor Emelia. When she isn't sleeping, she is crying. I know her little throat hurts just like mine does. Every time I get her off to sleep, Autumn is in her face shouting, "Hi baby," or trying to hold her hand. If I say anything to Autumn when she does that, Autumn gets her feelings hurt and cries, then I have two crying monsters. I had the thought today, Calgon.... take me away.
So back to trying to get a good photo of Emelia and this was the best I could come up with:
That outfit was sent to us by Grandma and Grandpa Jordan. I can hardly believe it, but it is a 3 month outfit (all the new born stuff, Emelia has outgrown).
Autumn is really into family time:
She is constantly demanding family hugs or:
To "carry it." That means she wants to pick up her sister. I've tried to get Autumn to call her Emelia, and she does sometimes, but most of the time she refers to Emelia as "baby" or "it". It is a work in progress.
Now, to the title of my post, Ode to Sean. When I first met Sean, I could hardly cook a thing. I called myself the one hit wonder. My favorite thing to "cook" was a Ruben Sandwich. Come on now, a sandwich is hardly cooking! Since then, Sean has helped me gain some confidence in my abilities, but more importantly he has helped me reach a desire for better food. Case in point, our dinner this evening.
Baked Lemon Pasta with grilled chicken and bread. Another recipe from the Pioneer Woman. It was completely delicious.
Extremely easy to make as well.
Autumn ate it up.
Not surprising though, Autumn has always been a very good eater.
During nap time today, I made this for dessert:
Raspberries with sweet cream. This is where the true thanks to Sean comes in. Custards/sauces/puddings are not my forte (of course today was only my second try at it) and it isn't something you can really teach someone how to do. You just have to know when the mixture is at its correct consistency. If you are like me and you fret constantly over every little detail (am I doing it right, how am I going to mess this up today, is it going to taste good, what will everyone think about it, blah blah blah) it makes it about a million times harder. Sean explained to me a few things, gave me some guidance, but most importantly, he gave me the confidence to do it.
As I sit here and write this, I must laugh. We haven't even tried it yet! It could be total disaster. I guess you will have to check back for the final verdict!
