Dew Mound, aptly named.
We've been to Dew Mound before, but it's been awhile.
We decided we were ALL going.
Sometimes Dingo hops in the car to make sure he isn't left behind.
Sometimes, it isn't a good idea to bring your cattle dog to bear/moose country.
But we knew we would keep him on the leash for the most part.
That isn't his favorite thing, but it is what is safe.
Right away I see a flower.
Then we saw:
A bear!
Oh he was so little!
Where is his mother?
Sean and Autumn stopped ahead of us to wait for Millie and me and Autumn says, what is that?
Oh!
It's another bear!
Maybe it was the mother.
We are not sure.
They weren't that close to each other.
It's crazy how fast the green happens.
Sean and Autumn pretty much stayed ahead of me.
Millie and I move at a slower pace, but we are busy looking for the little things that most people miss.
My hiking buddy.
A small stream.
That's when I start to notice the orchids.
Oh how I love orchids.
I don't know what sort of flower this is, but when I see it, I think of Dr Banerjee.
Dr Banerjee used to say, "Life will find a way."
Even in a rock, totally exposed.
We stayed in this area for awhile exploring the rocks.
There were so many mosquitoes.
It was drizzling.
Millie grabbed a tree and shook it.
She noticed all the water that fell off.
She comes up with the brilliant idea to shake a tree on me.
While she was trying to do it, she slipped and had she not been hanging onto the tree, she would have fallen.
According to her, "To my death." HA HA
We finally arrived at Dew Mound and I was just snapping photos.
It wasn't until I got home that I figured out how great this shot of Millie was!
The colors are brilliant.
This is a lung lichen.
I liken the lichens!
Powderhorn.
Taking a break to eat.
She looks mad though, doesn't she.
Right after she finished eating, she stood up and we started walking again.
A little ways down the trail, Millie realized she dropped her ziploc bag with her last piece of toast.
I didn't want to litter, so I told Millie to keep going and catch up to her dad, I would go back after the ziploc bag.
When I got back to the ziploc bag, a squirrel had the bag and was trying to figure out how to open it.
As soon as he saw me, he dropped it and ran!
Elegant sunburst lichen.
Powdered sunshine lichen.
Dew Lake.
Dingo went for a swim and was shaking himself off.
A small stream near the lake.
Showy Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium family: Polemonium pulcherrimum lindleyi).
There were mountains at Dew mound, but there were also clouds.
Just walking around and goofing off.
Now there were probably 8 different piles of moose scat there! Dew mound should be called DOO mound.
Millie and me.
Autumn doesn't like having her picture taken.
I tried to sneak this one in, but she caught me.
Sean and Dingo.
Jumping picture.
This is my jumping picture.
Even though it was cloudy, a little rainy, it was still pretty.
Me and Autumn.
Hoof fungus (Fomes fomentarius).
After we got done at Dew Mound, we made our way to Echo Bend.
Beaver damage.
Eagle River is pretty.
It's more blue than I remember it to be.
I thought it was gray.
Boardwalk.
Northern Redcurrant (Ribes triste).
Spruce tree.
The sun started to come out a little bit.
Millie really wanted me to hug this tree and then take my picture.
Secretly, I've always been a tree hugger.
Hobo Millie.
Oh my gosh this made me laugh so hard.
Millie stole my trekking pole and then walked past me like this.
This was about the six mile mark.
The girls were starting to really wear down.
Evil mother!
One of the most photographed trees ever!
All in all we did 7.5 miles 919 feet of elevation gain and just under 4 hours!
The girls will sleep well tonight.
The Jordan's.
