Twin Peaks, the place, not the show.
I've been slowly adding on some more miles running.
I decided I wanted to do 7 miles on the Tony Knowles.
Partly, I was thinking about Seline (my friend that died from Breast Cancer).
She always loved May 4th.
Sean's ex-girlfriend gave me this hat. LOL!!
I ran from earthquake park down to just past Elderberry park (downtown Anchorage).
Trailshot.
Later that day Dingo found his frisbee and wanted to play.
Dingo's face!!!!!!
Sometimes he looks at us, like come on!!
I had planned to do a hike today, but we had a conflict with the girls school.
The teachers had put each child's belongings into bags and we had to come pick the stuff up.
They brought out Autumn's bag first.
It looked organized and tidy (just like Autumn).
Then came Millie's bag.
It looked like a straight up garbage bag. I couldn't help but laugh.
I commented about how Millie was such a train wreck.
Whoever the lady was that brought the bag out just chuckled.
On to today, May 5th.
Sean and I made it back out to Eklutna to do the twin peaks trail.
We made it out there about 8 am.
The sun was shining and the temp was roughly in the 40s.
Our first good look at frozen Lake Eklutna.
The first bench, roughly mile 1.5. Elevation gain: 1,268 feet.
I'm smiling here, but shortly after this I was sucking wind.
I had just done 7 miles yesterday and had all kinds of issues with my stomach due to my chemo pills.
Then Sean had to man-splain me my backpack carrier, how to walk, how to breathe, how to live... which made me SUPER grouchy feeling.
I tasted the frozen icicles.
Tasted like water.
I didn't try these icicles.
The thing is, our overnight temperatures were in the 30's so out here, instead of mud, the ground was nice and hard.
Once the sun is out all day, this trail gets super muddy.
The earlier, the less people too.
We made it to the second bench at 2.75 miles and 2,068 feet of elevation gain.
It was nice and you could see the twin peaks, but something about it just felt unfinished.
I wanted to see the lake from this elevation, but in order to do so, that meant we needed to go up again (or some more?).
On the way up, found some buds.
That is Sean ahead of me and he looks so small compared to what all is around us.
There was snow/ice on this part of the trek but we both managed without our crampons.
This view is spectacular!
That felt really sketch to walk through, but actually, it was pretty compact and I didn't slip at all.
Some more plants with the sun behind them.
There it is. The view from above the second bench. Mile 3, elevation 3,403 feet.
Totally worth the extra climb!
The mountains were stunning.
I think Sean was on that grassy knoll.
My banana phone!
One more look.
At some point we would like to take the girls on their bikes and ride out to whatever glacier is back behind the lake.
That is twin peaks behind me.
Another look with a little tree in the foreground.
I love how Lake Eklutna is blue.
The knoll in the foreground, twin peaks in the background.
I did not notice the sky until I was in the car.
Dingo dog!
No idea what plant that is, but I loved how cute and fuzzy it was!
So on our way in, we saw a junk car (it's at about mile 1.07).
We decided to stop by and check it out a bit closer on the way down.
For the life of me, I cannot imagine why this car is here.
But it was fun to explore it.
Speaking of junk...
Sean picked up trash along the trail all the way down.
Great job!
So, we did almost 7 miles round trip (6.69), Total elevation gain of 2,618 feet. Max elevation was 3,402 ft.
In other news, my friend sent me this shirt and I love it!
Boom!
We ended up stopping by Costco (we needed a battery for the Jeep), and grabbed a few items for dinner.
We did tacos to celebrate cinqo de mayo.
We called Phyllis to sing happy birthday to her.
Sean, Autumn, Millie and me.
We had the phone on speaker and were trucking right along.
"Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday (we realized we didn't plan this ahead of time and my eyes were big, what do I say?? Phyllis, grandma, mom?!?!) Dearunintelligible
Happy birthday to you!"
Sean said Mom, I said Phyllis, Autumn/Emelia said grandma!
It was funny and made us all laugh.
Anyway, hope you had a great day.
The Jordan's.
