Mt Gordon Lyon
Arctic Valley is so close to home.
I have been here many times, but I have never gone to the top of Mt Gordon Lyon.
There was an ulterior motive; we wanted to check Highland mountain from the side we don't usually see.
Our states park pass doesn't work here, but $5 isn't bad.
We pick our route assuming going this particular way would be the least muddy.
We were right!
It wasn't always easy to tell if we were on the right side of these signs.
We made it to the road that goes to the Nike site and really, I have no idea if that is off limits or not.
0.8 miles to the road and 844 feet of elevation gain.
Even from here, the views are already really good.
We left the road not far from here and I asked Sean if the Nike site was still maintained.
Sean said he wasn't sure and no sooner than we left the road did we see two trucks coming down the road.
I guess that answers that.
It must still be maintained.
I am hoping they aren't coming after us!
Try and catch me!
Anemone.
The false summit.
Cut-leaf anemone.
They are so hairy!
I just love that.
Alpine azalea.
Why is it that summit never looks that impressive on camera when you are so close to it.
Glissade??
The willow is flowering!!!
Still lots of snow, but it was easy to avoid.
Will you come with me?
This rock looked like it had a head of green hair.
Ptarmigan feather?
Karen (cairn).
Sean.
All the mountains.
Dingo was hot and thirsty.
This dog wears himself out on these hikes.
I bet he did about 50 miles today.
Sean and Dingo.
It was really cool to see Eagle River and South Fork this way.
South Fork is a trail I have used a lot, so to see it from way up here was cool.
The sun was bright!
If you used the bino's- you could see Eagle Lake.
Symphony lake was a little hard to see as it is a different color than Eagle.
Mt Gordon Lyon, can you hear me now?
OK, the real photo.
I think you can tell I was sweating.
Sean!
We opted to take a different route down.
It was a little more muddy/wet, but it was less steep, so easier on the knees.
What is with this sign?
The most un-useful sign ever!!!
Today's stats: 4.5 miles. 1,660 feet of elevation gain. Min elevation: 2,619 ft. Max elevation: 4,137 ft. Time: 2 hours 32 minutes.
The Jordan's.
