I hate the news.

I went to Ft Benning and requested my shot records. They will call me once they receive and transcribe them.

The guy said it would be at least a few days.

I went over to the Soldier For Life Center. I needed to have a VA representative certify my VA entitlements.

When we walked in the door, at the center of the room was a big screen TV.

It was desert looking, with billowy black smoke on the TV. My heart skipped a beat.

They showed a gun fight.

Autumn flipped out.

Is that my dad? Is that in Afghanistan.

I'm reading the ticker as fast as I can.

It isn't Afghanistan.

It is Iraq. I guess there is some intense fighting happening over an oil refinery.

I tell Autumn.

We all breathe a sigh of relief.

"I hate Afghanistan," Millie says.

Oh baby, me too.

The first person I see is a counselor with the education center.

I have all my paperwork.

I tell her I need a VA certifying official.

Commense the arguing.

These aren't your benefits, she says.

No, they are. That is my name and my social security number.

You were active duty?

Yes.

Oh. How long have you been off active duty?

10+ years.

Commense more arguing.

Listen lady, I don't know if you are a volunteer, but I'm shocked that there would be such an uneducated person in the education office. I need to speak to someone that actually has knowledge.

I end up with a rep from CSU.

The certifying official is on campus in Columbus. She gives me her name and number.

She gets me the name of my advisor and shows me how to make my appointment.

I told her I submitted a request for my immunization records, but who knew how long that would take.

She says she has a work around, that I can decline based on religious beliefs.

Yes, please!!

Now I just need to see that advisor.

I came home, made an appointment for tomorrow at 10 am. Alison is coming over to watch the girls.

After I speak to the advisor, all that is left is to sign up for classes and see the VA.

I had a nice evening out with my discipleship group.

It is my first night out since you left, 53 days ago.

I cried a little.

It was a relief to just have a few minutes to myself.

On the way home, a big storm was coming in.

The girls had a wonderful time with Raegan.

She kept the house clean and the girls really liked her. She wouldn't accept payment from me.

I think I'm going to hire her once a month or so.

I hope I can sleep tonight.

I only slept two hours last night.

I was just so worried about Max the fish.

I love you.

Your currently very tired wife and nonexistent airman. XOXO

52 days.
