Pistachio

Autumn got a mouse in November and named her Remi.

Remi died just a few weeks later.

The night before Remi died, I had a sinking feeling she would not make it through the night.

The next morning, Sean went and checked and she was clearly gone.

We decided to tell Autumn before she even started getting ready for school.

When she started crying, Millie began to cry too even though Millie did not even know yet why Autumn was crying.

Once Millie started crying, I began crying.

I guess we will never know if Sean shed any tears, it was dark.

I believe Remi had cancer, but we will never know for sure.

I offered to do an autopsy on Remi, but Autumn was not OK with that.

We placed Remi in a special box and buried her in our backyard.

We scrubbed down Remi's cage, nest box, wheel and ball.

We took Autumn back to Pet Smart to take a look at the fancy mice available now.

She picked out this one:

Autumn named her Pistachio.

May she live long and prosper.
