The Hay Flats and Eklutna Tail Race.
I had been wanting to visit the hay flats for some time.
We needed our microspikes at the hay flats.
It was really icy along the trail.
While Sean and I were out there, we saw moose track, but never a moose.
Dingo was running around like a wild dog.
He got pretty far from us and we heard a strange noise.
We had to stop moving because the spikes on our shoes are loud.
I think we were hearing a child crying, but we never did get to the bottom of the strange noise we were hearing.
We were calling Dingo, but he was pretty far.
We could hear him barking though.
Dingo isn't a barker.
I was alarmed.
Sean started making his way in the direction we thought Dingo was.
I was pretty sure he found a moose and that was what he was barking at.
Next thing we hear is cracking ice sounds and a sort of splash.
Immediately we both knew that Dingo had fallen though the ice.
WE could hear him trying to get out of the mess he got himself into.
Sean was on his way, but thankfully, Dingo self rescued and made his way back to us.
Completely wet!!!
Lesson learned.
He's not allowed off leash at this location anymore.
The flats were really interesting, a short and easy hike.
There is a place to ice skate too.
After the flats, we headed over to Eklutna Tail Race (which I can never remember the name of).
It was simply beautiful there.
There is a lot of abandoned vehicles there.
I find that disturbing and intriguing all at the same time.
The tail race has the really blue water.
We need to bring the girls back there once there is snow on the ground.
