Jordan Family Rules.
Today, in the playroom, I observed Autumn throw something right at Millie's face. I asked her to come and talk to me about it and she said that she,
"Punched Millie, kicked Millie and threw a ball at her face." Unacceptable. I decided it was time to sit down and clearly point out what the rules are and what the consequences will be each time one of the rules is broken.
In order:
1. No hitting, kicking or punching.
2. No throwing toys.
3. No yelling in the house.
4. No biting.
The consequences.
1. Warning.
2. Time out.
3. Lose a privilege (yes I misspelled it and will now need to do a new poster!)
4. Spanking.
My hope is that I don't ever get to number 4. I had a nice long talk with both girls and Autumn has a very good grasp of what was expected. We talked about what things were privileges (Watching TV, using the computer, the use of blanket/Roww, candy, going special places) and what she could expect if she broke one of the rules. Just talking about taking away privileges made the girl cry. I think this is going to be effective for all three of us.
Admittedly I can have a short temper at times and sometimes I am not always consistent. By placing this chart on the wall in the dining room, it serves as a reminder, mostly to me to escalate the consequences in a reasonable manner. I'm not sure I really agree that punching someone in the face should get a warning, but I think it will work the best if I continue to do things in order. What do you think Sean? I would love to have your input. Also, I think I am going to go with what the pastor said at church this past Sunday and pick a neutral object to use to spank the girls. It will NOT be a belt (and I do not believe a belt is a neutral object), it will not be a switch or even a paddle. I think I may use a spoon or spatula, but likely, a wooden spoon. I told Autumn if we got as far as spanking, she would receive 4 because that is how old she is and Millie would receive 2. I hope we see an improvement in all three of us.
Also, I wish that I had your patience and nerves of steel. I don't think any of this would be necessary if you were home.
Last night the girls and I really enjoyed
Taco night.
You know the girls ate a million olives!
I think Autumn ate an olive taco! OK, so there was some cheese and taco meat in there.
Millie ate her "circle" and toppings individually!
No taco night would be complete without:
Olive fingers.
After dinner, I was doing the dishes and the girls went outside to feed the cats and water the plants. After a few minutes, I heard screaming coming from the backyard and I started running, heart racing to the back yard. My first thought was that Millie must have fallen in to the pool. I could hear Autumn saying emergency, emergency! I was so afraid. I get eyes on both girls and none of them are drowning, sigh of relief, but Autumn is so distraught, I cannot understand what she is saying. Finally, she had fire ants all over her feet, up her legs, up her shorts. Horrible. I ripped her clothes off of her and starting killing the jerks. Autumn was so devastated. After I was certain there were no ants on her, I made sure Millie didn't have any.
I put benadryl cream on Autumn and then gave her benadryl. She is going to respond to ants like I always did. Big, swollen welts. She probably cried for a half hour. This morning when she woke up, she told me she didn't want to go to school. She said that she was really tired and just wanted to stay with me. Autumn always wants to go to school, so I told her she could stay home with me and we would have a nice day, just her and I.
We dropped Millie off to school and then Autumn and I went to Barnes & Noble. We checked out some books, games, on sale items. Then Autumn got a blondie brownie. We went to Sam's for a few items, then off the Crepe Myrtle Cafe. Originally, I wanted to take her to Cafe la Rue, but upon inspection of their menu, it didn't seem like a kid friendly place. I thought it was a French Bistro type place, but it was really more creole. They had a lot of seafood, so a place I think I should check out on my own some time later (or with you!).
While we waited on our order, Autumn made quick work of drawing on their chalk board. From right to left: Cherish, Autumn, Sean and Millie.
Autumn ordered a PB&J on panini.
I had a roasted vegetable crepe and a side of broccoli salad. It was pretty tasty, but I have a feeling that their dessert crepes are where it is at.
Overall, Autumn and I had a very lovely day today. Millie was so happy to see us when we picked her up from school.
I hope you survived the range.
I love you.
