The woes of a military wife.
I noticed a funny smell in the house yesterday at nap time, but it wasn't until bed time that I realized we had a problem. The A/C wouldn't shut off even when the thermostat reached the desired temperature. It smelled kind of like the first time you put the heater on. I didn't sleep well thinking about the house catching on fire, so around midnight, I turned the circuit breaker off. I turned it back on this morning and smelled the same funny smell, so I turned it off.
One great thing about deployment.... it teaches you just what you are capable of and when you are over your head.
First thing first... Get the girls to school.
Picture day. This is the outfit Autumn picked out. She wanted to wear her "cowboy" boots.
She said good morning daddy.
Came home and now we have to finish getting Millie ready for school.
This is what she started off in, but on our way out the door, she spilled water on it and demanded to be changed.
Her version of a funny face (like Autumn's).
Trying to get a smile.
Another try.
Last try.
Off to school with you!
Before we left, I took the face plate off our thermostat in hopes this was the problem. I took it with me to Lowe's and bought a new one. One that can be programmed. I like that.
Starting out.
I got all the wires off the old one.
The new one.
The new one on the wall. (Your dad told your mom an orangutan could do this, so there was a lot of pressure on me!)
All together. I got everything put back together, turned the circuit breaker on and the temperature moved down 1 degree in an hour. Something isn't right. I called the company your mom/dad use and they said they would come out this afternoon.
As we were walking out the door for church, the A/C repair company called. They are on the way. I asked your mom to come over and let them in so I could at least pick up our dinner we signed up for. She did and he arrived while we were at church.
When I got home, Nick (the A/C guy) said that the people who installed the unit installed things properly but didn't do a good job on some of the little things. Some wires were left exposed and there were holes or pocks in them. Some of the exposed wires began to touch and it caused the heating strips to turn on (yes, during the summer even though the heater wasn't on). Then the exposed touching wires caused the heating strips to stay turned on which caused the A/C to blow out hot and cold air at the same time. The damage today was only $172. He is coming back out tomorrow to check on the other A/C and let me know the damage on a coil. He won't be able to make any phone calls tonight, but I'm really hoping we can get a new coil under warranty. The price difference is pretty big. Apparently in addition to our wire problem, we have a very small Freon leak. It isn't going to cause a problem this summer, but next. Once I get all the information tomorrow, I'll be able to make a decision on what to do.
For now, we have A/C and Millie says she needs,
"more Money. Daddy."
We had a nice dinner..... NO SEAN, the church did not serve this! We had chicken, rice, lima beans and corn on the cob.
The girls had a pretty big day and I am complete. I'm getting everyone to bed shortly and then I'm off to bed myself.
Your current wife and favorite airman. xoxo
