Dead, dead, dead.

Image
After lecture today, Ingrid grabbed me and asked me if I would go and check on our fruit flies with her. I said, sure. Our Wild type fruit flies were all dead. I hypothesize that our Professor may have over anesthetized them. I checked in other people's experiments and they had little to no movement in their wild type vials too. Maybe they were just a bad batch altogether. Ingrid and I left to find Dr Schwarz. She wanted to bring the dead flies with us, but I said that he was probably eating and we should leave the flies there. I feel pretty comfortable saying that they were dead. We walk down to his office he wasn't there. I told her that I see him walk to the cafeteria after class. So we walk down there. I spot him sitting down eating and I ditch Ingrid. I tell Professor that I was terribly sorry to interrupt his lunch but our fruit flies were dead. Ingrid comes walking up behind me holding the dead flies, in the cafeteria. You brought the dea

Millie's roughed up elbow from her wreck out yesterday. Autumn's got some pretty buff arms! After church this morning, the girls told me they wanted to go with me when I ran. I told them that would be fun. We did 4 miles together. They rode their bikes and I ran down to their school and back. I'm so proud of them. This morning Millie really gave me the creeps with her spider question. E: mom, I need a tank so that when my spider egg hatches, I have a place to keep my spider. What? I have this suspicion that Millie is going to do me in!!! I love you. Your current wife and favorite airman. xoxo 161 days.

Bikes and bruises.

We spent so much of the day inside and it was so pleasant out this late afternoon. I decided we needed to get out of the house for a bit. I think the yard is looking quite nice. There are brown spots, but that is where the weeds are dying. I need to edge. The girls wanted to ride their bikes. I think you can see in this picture, if you look at the clouds, the weather front. Sweet Millie. Shortly after I took this photo, the girls were riding and Autumn passed Millie. As she was passing, a car was coming. Autumn zoomed back over in front of Millie and caused a big wreck. There was crying and bleeding, but only Millie was hurt. She basically had some road rash on her. I was angry with Autumn because not only did she pass in an unsafe manner, she nearly got hit by a car and then wrecked Millie out. I asked Millie what did she want to do. Go home? Or press on? She decided: She wanted to keep going. That girl is so tough. They wanted to go to the la

The girls are so interested in my science experiments that I'm doing as much as I can to involve them with them. Guess what? This lab will require us to check on the fruit flies over weekends and in the evenings. You know what that means? I'll be taking girls with me to the lab!! This was some of our equipment for today. There is a vial in the back with a foam stopper on its top. I was so curious about this vial. I picked it up and smelled it. It had an odor to it, but I wasn't sure what it was. In front of that is the Fly Media. It consist of white potato flakes and blue dye. We have a jar of yeast (food for the fruit flies). Paint brushes, and this sharp pointy thing. There is a bottle of "fly nap". The fly nap is what we used to anesthetize the fruit flies. That vial in the back that I was sniffing.... anesthesia. WOW!!! I'm a genius. I took some pictures and even a few videos to share with the girls and they are so ex

The girl's $5 swim suits from Target. That was too good a deal to pass up. Autumn received her report card today. I hope you can see that. She has had no absences or tardy's and she received all A's on her progress report. When we came home from school, we did homework and then I fixed an early dinner because I needed to go to your mom's house to make a delivery and I needed to be at church early. We had roasted carrots, pan seared chicken and rice for dinner. I hope I ate enough. I have an 8 mile run tomorrow. Julie sent your mom and dad flowers for their 44th anniversary. Millie held the flowers all the way there and then Autumn delivered them. While at your mom's and dad's house, your dad told the girl's he had some pirate booty to share with them. They picked out little trinkets and what not, but then your dad pulled out a small treasure chest. It had your mom's diploma in it, your dad's baby book and this little ge

My sinuses hate me.

We did not leave the house today. Millie was whiny all day. I suppose I regret letting her stay up late to "chat" with you. Your parents stopped by early afternoon. They brought me a gift. It was a blanket for when we move to Washington. I could not help it, but laugh. Are you trying to get rid of me? Your mom says, "No (looks really offended), it was on sale and I had a coupon for it. It will keep you warm in Washington." OK. Thank you? After spending some time with the girls, your dad says they need to leave, that today is their anniversary. Now I feel like a total ass. So you brought me a going away gift and I gave you............. Happy Anniversary!! I took a test today for my anthropology course. I actually felt really good about it. I will have another test this Friday in that course. I feel so behind in my philosophy class. I need to get a lot of reading done in that class. My next test in that class is Sept 13th. I n

Battle in the closet.

While we were getting ready for Awana tonight, I went into your closet to get quarters (mission money). I noticed some small black stuff on the carpet near the change jar. I notice that it is under your wet suit. It was not big enough to be mouse scat, which is what I thought it was at first. I remembered seeing the lizard go into your closet this afternoon, and I have no idea what lizard scat looks like. I start shaking your wet suit. More of this black stuff is falling off. Now I'm trying to figure out if there is something that you sprayed on your suit that is falling off. I am poking and prodding and pulling things apart when all of a sudden...... A GIANT ROACH IS STARING AT ME!!!!!!! I scream bloody murder. Autumn, who was standing behind me, runs out of our room and out of the house. Millie on the other hand, "I want to see. I want to see. What is it mommy? I will help you!" I pull your wet suit out of the closet after I get my hands on

Trains and Animals.

We met up with Alison and Michael this morning. Our first stop was in Waverly Hall. The only information I had was that Cindy (a lady in my Sunday school class and good friends with Alison), was friends with a man named Dewey that lived in Waverly Hall and had a train obsession. I was told he had a train or two the kids could ride on. I think that in my mind, I was thinking something like what we saw in Warm Springs. Stationary objects that use to move, but now just sit there. We arrive to a house with a lot of dogs. Cindy tells me that the man's wife works for an animal humane type place and we wait for Dewey. After some time, we hear some noise out in the woods and walk towards a track. Wow!! It looks like a pretty big track. Dewey walks up with a leaf blower. He was out cleaning the track for us. He tells us about the train track. How it was built, what modifications they are doing to it, etc. He finally lets us on and we go around three times.
