Alaska Girls Rule!

Image
I really struggled with my decision about going on a hike to Byron Glacier today. It was rainy and the forecast didn't look any better down in Portage. Finally I decided that we would drive down there and if it was too bad, we would turn around and come home. We get down there and it is 53 degrees, raining, and WINDY. I didn't want to turn around though, so...... I told Autumn what we were about to do and she gave me this look. It didn't take much convincing though. It took about twenty minutes to gear up and Autumn was excited about our little adventure. The sign. It was probably right about here where I was like, what the heck was I thinking? Melting glacier, rain and wind- what a bad combination for a hike, but that water only came close to the banks and the trail wasn't overly flooded. That is Byron Glacier in the background, but I couldn't get over Autumn's gangsta lean. Autumn didn't care one bit about the rain or the cool, she seemed pretty hap

The Alaska State Fair.

Made a trip to the fair today. First stop: Enough said. As if donut holes weren't enough, we stopped to get deep fried zucchini as well. Autumn loved eating the ranch dressing for the zucchini and I'm pretty sure she ate her fair share of donut holes. Three of a kind. Yep, I'm the odd one out with my non blond hair. I thought this was a cute picture of Dylan. The big hit of the day, The petting zoo. Autumn totally surrounded. She really liked the goat. The bunny. There was a baby cow in front of her mooing and it was pretty much freaking her out. Of course, when that Llama behind her jumped, my heart about hit the floor, but I grabbed Autumn up quickly and everything was fine. The only things in there smaller than Autumn were the piglets and boy were those guys cute! Sean, you know what is happening here right? And check out Dylan trying to get the latch open! Hold the presses, it is a picture with me in it! We thought the kids would nap on the way up, the way back or

Autumn had her 18 month check up today. She was 32.5 inches tall (75th percentile), weighed 24 pounds on the dot (50th percentile) and her head was 18 inches around. The Doc said she was tall and thin! I find that hilarious considering her girth from birth to 12 months! Anyway, she did end up getting one shot, but it is her last one until she is 4 years old unless we go for the flu shot. We spent some time with second family today. Cindy always feeds me when you are gone and I'm so glad she did. Autumn and I would have eaten hot dogs, but Cindy rescued us from that and fed us pizza and Slow Cooker Beans and Sausage. I made the cornbread, but Cindy is the one who did all the work! Autumn's going to be an unruly teenager isn't she? She is only one and is already bringing her cellphone to the table! Having a good time. At first it looks like she has an evil intent, but... BOO!! Look at Dylan laugh. Then all the fun came to a crashing halt thanks to... Mr Travis!!! L

Sweet Pea, Apple of my eye

I don't know when and I don't know why, you're the only reason I keep on coming home. I know you will only be gone a few days, but I didn't want you to leave. I wish you could stay with us always. I will go dry my tears now, have sweet dreams of you and look forward to seeing you soon. I love you Sean Jordan.

A Special Retirement.

Today we went to a retirement ceremony for Staff Sergeant Brian Schiefer. Brian and Sean are in the same unit. Brian served in the Air Force for 7 years and last year while at National Training Center (NTC), he had a terrible accident in his High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV- aka Humvee). Brian suffered many injuries because of the accident to include his spinal cord being exposed and is now paralyzed. It was good to see him again. The very last time we saw him was at Jimmy's house, long before the accident. Autumn was barely walking then and whenever she would look in his general direction, she would start to cry. Thank goodness she didn't do that today. Don't get me wrong, she was a total savage during the ceremony. She was blah blah blahing the general presiding over the proceedings, she was walking when she should have been at attention and at one point, she started screaming because she liked the way her voice bounced off the walls of the hanga

Jim's Creek and Portage Glacier.

We had a great weekend. As usual, we enjoyed sunny weather one day and not so sunny weather the other! Saturday we decided we would head down to Jim's Creek. As we were heading in, we had to pull out a nice fella who got his truck stuck in the mud. It was no problem for the Jeep. I saw a little bit of body damage on the guys truck and thought to myself, this guy doesn't know what he is doing. I overheard him tell Sean that he flipped his truck 4x4'ing and that his wife was in it, but she was OK minus a concussion. WOW!!! I don't know if he should be 4x4'ing anymore and big shocker that his wife wasn't with him!!!! Anyway, it is beautiful out there and once we got around stuck guy, you could see all the guys with their dirty trucks/Jeeps/man made 4x4's with HUGE smiles on their faces (and oh by the way, most of them didn't have their wife/fam with them, so part of me wondered if that is why they were so happy), but I decided it was the mud that ma
